POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Trust Office Director, the Station Manager is responsible for the supervision, planning, organizing and management of NCN Achimowin Radio Station (NARS). The Station Manager will supervise all the staff and handle all matters concerning management and operation of the Radio Station.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of NARS establishment.
  • Establish objectives for NARS and formulate policies;
  • Responsible for management of station programming, scheduling, formulate and approve promotion campaigns and introduction of new programs;
  • Responsible for maintaining good relations with local organizations, advertisers and network with other local radio/TV stations to ensure maximum utilization of resources and the maintenance of a public profile for NARS;
  • Ensure that NARS meets the terms of its broadcasting licence and is also responsible for all official correspondence with the NCI and other bodies involved in licensing and broadcast regulations;

  • Maintain broadcast activities during the hours indicated in the license of the radio station;
  • Responsible for all volunteer staff, including production and technical staff to ensure the success of the radio station;
  • Ensures accuracy of Logs (music, program and studio);
  • Responsible for information dispersed to the public and promotion of the radio station, including, as required, public speaking on behalf of NARS;
  • Responsible for pricing and content of advertising (programs and spots);
  • Responsible for maintaining the financial viability of NARS;
  • Establish financial and administrative controls, and approve all personnel planning;
  • Responsible for revenue development, should seek out new forms of revenue in forms of advertising, fund raising events, grants, etc.;
  • Prepares and presents expenditure proposal to the CAP-CIP Committee;
  • Develops the annual budget and administers the operating budget;
  • Produces quarterly, year-end, evaluation reports and all accountability requirements as disclosed to the membership (CAP-CIP);
  • Responsible for the day to day supervision of all staff and volunteers;
  • Recruit personnel and oversee their training, deal with disciplinary matters and dismissal of employees;
  • Be available “on-call” evenings and weekends;
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge and experience working within a radio station, preferably at a management level;
  • Strong written and oral communications (Cree & English);
  • Strong interpersonal and organization skills;
  • Excellent ability to train and motivate personnel and others;
  • Cooperative, team oriented and flexible;
  • Observant and able to spot potential problem situations;
  • Computer proficiency;
  • Experience in financial management or bookkeeping;
  • Knowledge of the Radio-Communications Act & Regulations;
  • Understanding of Broadcast systems software;
  • Be familiar with the difference between a commercial radio station and a community radio station;;
  • Have some experience with local news, understanding its importance;
  • Have sufficient knowledge of on-air techniques to be able to work with volunteers to improve their on-air performance;
  • Have a wide-ranging understanding and appreciation for the various music genres. Be able to select proper music for our expected audience;
  • Have a very creative mind that provides our listeners and advertisers with one of a kind, unique promotions and events;
  • Have a need to become involved in the community, thus enhancing the role of the radio station;
  • Must Have the desire to grow 98.1 FM audiences, revenue and on-air professionalism
