Chief Angela Levasseur, B.A., B. Ed., PBDE, Juris Doctor

I am a proud Ithiniw Iskwe, mother of five, and Kohkum.
I am the first female chief of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, and the first NCN citizen to earn a law degree.
I am a highly motivated and relentless advocate on behalf of our people. I’ve worked in Indigenous education for most of my life, seeking to educate and inspire First Nations youth. I am committed to bettering the lives of all First Nations peoples: women, men, gender diverse and two-spirit individuals.
As a land and water defender, I am passionate about climate change, conservation, and
biodiversity.
I believe that for Indigenous people to become economically self-sufficient and to heal from the wounds of our past, we must reclaim self-government and self-determination. An integral part of these goals is to continue our individual and collective healing journeys.

Deputy Chief Marcel Moody

I have served NCN in a leadership position since 1990.
I began my current term as deputy chief in 2022, and hold the portfolios for Economic Development, Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Self-Government; and Housing.
As Chief from 2014 to 2022, I led NCN as it achieved its own Aski Pumenikewin (land code) and its Othasowewin (constitution). I am grateful for the vision and wisdom of previous Chiefs who put us on the path of self-sovereignty.
I believe strong, diversified business and appropriate partnerships will meet the needs of a growing population and help us achieve our goal of a thriving future for our Nation.
I am proud to call Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation my home, and I’m happy to watch my grandchildren grow and prosper here.

Councillor Cheryl Moore

I have lived in NCN all of my life, except for my post-secondary years, and I’m fluent in Nehetho Cree. I have been married for almost 25 years, and have raised 6 children.
I served as NCN Deputy Chief from 2018-2022, and was re-elected as a councillor in 2022.
I hold the portfolios of Housing; Finance; Infrastructure and Public Works; and Social Development.
I worked in the NCN finance department for 15 years and the Trust office for seven years. For 25 years, I was a coordinator for the winter and summer festivals.
I am passionate about higher learning for our Citizens because this can provide the skills we need to move our Nation forward.
I am thankful for being given the responsibility of serving our Nation. I hope we can all learn to work collaboratively: Chief, Council and Citizens. Imagine how our Nation would prosper!

Throughout my life, my focus has been advocating for Indigenous rights in regard to our land and water resources. I have worked with the hunting, fishing and trapping industries for decades, and continue to travel my own trapline in winter.
I believe our voices must be recognized as we continue to deal with the effects of climate change in Manitoba’s north and beyond.
