The Gilbert McDonald Arena and Duncan Wood Memorial Hall are open year-round to provide recreation and event and meeting facilities in Nelson House.
In addition to winter ice sports, including hockey, the arena hosts many community events and festivals, such as the Winter Festival.
The Duncan Wood Memorial Hall is also busy year-round, following the addition of a new gymnasium floor, which is primarily used by the N.N.O.C. high school as its gym. The new gym facility has also been popular with other youth groups, who use it for recreation and sporting events, such as badminton and basketball.
The arena was constructed, and receives ongoing operational funding as part of NCN settlement of the NFA Implementation Agreement.
