Tansi!
After a number of weeks of no new COVID cases, our numbers are starting to slowly creep back up. Last week many people attended the repatriation ceremonies for our ancestors. Several people who attended these events tested positive yesterday and today. Other people who recently attended sporting events and concerts have also tested positive. Therefore, we urge everyone to take the following steps:
- If you attended any of these events last week please test yourself daily for the next week – tests are available at OT Gas, Three Rivers Store and the Checkstop;
- If you have ANY symptoms at all, STAY HOME, call public health and ask for a test to be dropped off at your house – 204-484-2341 (Monday to Friday from 8:30-4:30) or 204-679-0179 (Monday to Friday from 4:30 to 9:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00); and
- If you test positive you may be able to take medications like Paxlovid so your symptoms do not get worse – public health will let you know how long you must isolate and where.
We must continue to take steps to protect each other and our community as the pandemic is still not over. Indigenous Services Canada recently advised the next wave is looming so be careful, wear your mask, wash your hands frequently and cut down on the number of people you are in contact with.
Like other vaccines, the COVID-19 vaccines wear off over time so boosters are needed to provide ongoing protection. We encourage everyone to get vaccinated or boosted now and get your children ages 6 months and up vaccinated. DON’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT SURGE TO GET WORSE.
Ekosani!
