The Head Dress Ceremony for Willie Moore was a fun occasion, bringing together family, friends, colleagues, and community members to celebrate this incredible NCN milestone. Chiefs across Manitoba traveled to NCN, showing their admiration and excitement for Willie’s new role as AFN Regional Chief.

The event was filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and moments of deep emotion. Chiefs and dignitaries, including AFN National Chief Cindy Woodhouse-Nepinak, AMC Grand Chief Kyra Wilson, and MKO Grand Chief Garrison Settee, spoke highly of Willie’s dedication, leadership, and bright future ahead of him, adding a few lighthearted jokes along the way. The crowd smiled, laughed, and even shed a few tears of joy, while Willie himself tried to hold back his own emotions, overwhelmed by the support from those around him.

Upon arrival in NCN, visiting Chiefs and dignitaries were warmly welcomed by the community at ATEC (Atoskiwin Training and Employment Centre), where Chief Jim Moore and the ATEC staff provided refreshments and an insightful presentation on the organization’s mission. Chief Jim emphasized the importance of “growing capacity in our community,” showcasing how NCN empowers its people through education and skill development.

The Head Dress Ceremony occurred at the Norman Linklater Multiplex, where NCN community members gathered alongside honored guests. The ceremony began with a Pipe Ceremony, led by Clifford Hart, which highlighted the sacred connection between the spirit world and the Creator. Ella Moose-Hart followed with a powerful opening prayer in Cree, reinforcing the strength of NCN’s culture and traditions.

The Grand Entry was led by Red Cree, who drummed and sang as dignitaries, former NCN Chiefs, Junior Chief, and Chief Angela Levasseur proudly carried flags. Willie walked in alongside his parents, Barb and Ron Moore, their faces beaming joyfully.

Following heartfelt speeches from visiting Chiefs and Grand Chiefs, a Smudging Ceremony was conducted by Diana and Terry Linklater. Then, in a powerful and emotional moment, Chief Angela Levasseur and Chief Jim Moore adorned Willie with his Head Dress, marking the journey ahead of him as AFN Regional Chief. Surrounded by friends and family, Willie stood proudly as community members lined up to congratulate him.

In his speech, Willie expressed his deep gratitude to the people of NCN, reflecting on his time on NCN Council and the valuable lessons he learned from past leaders. His journey is a testament to the strength and vision of NCN leadership, and the NCN community is excited to see the impact he will make in his new role.

Congratulations to Willie Moore! Your NCN family is proud of you and looks forward to your leadership as AFN Regional Chief!
