It was an incredible day at the Family and Community Wellness Centre on April 22nd! We were honored to welcome Ken Mackenzie, an expert in decolonizing approaches to healing, to join our community leaders for a vital conversation on mental health and strength.
Ken’s work reminds us that true healing comes from understanding the effects of colonialism and intergenerational trauma while celebrating the incredible resiliency and strength of our Cree Peoples. By blending Western clinical support with our own traditional Cree practices, we are paving a path toward true self-determination.
It was inspiring to see so many programs and leaders gathered in one room, including:
Country Foods
NCN Housing
NCN Communications
Chief and Council Representative
Counselling Services & CFS
Medicine Lodge
Bereavement
And much more
From facilitating powerful group sessions to getting back out on our traditional lands, every program is doing something unique to support our people. Hearing about the progress happening right here in NCN is a reminder that when we voice our concerns and work together, our nation’s mental health grows stronger every day.
Let’s keep the momentum going!
