As of May 5, 2025

Due to extremely dry conditions in and around Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (Nelson House), a Fire Danger Warning has been declared. All NCN Citizens are urged to take immediate precautions to protect our community.

  • No open bush/grass fires allowed at any time.
  • Cigarettes must be fully extinguished and discarded in safe containers. Do not toss cigarettes out of vehicle windows while driving.
  • Burning barrels must have fires completely contained.
  • Pit fires are permitted only if always actively monitored with water or an extinguisher is on hand nearby. Be sure they are fully extinguished after use.
  • Parents: Speak with your children about fire danger and keep matches/lighters out of reach.

Report any fires or suspicious activity immediately to the NCN Fire Department at (204) 484-2911 or RCMP.

⚠️ Deliberately set grass fires endanger homes, buildings, property and lives!

Setting fires can lead to criminal charges — including conspiracy to commit murder if someone is injured or killed. Parents will be held responsible for their children’s actions.

Note: NCN Fire and Safety will be conducting controlled burns starting this week to prevent fire spread in emergency situations. These are planned and supervised for public safety.

Let’s all do our part to keep NCN safe. Be alert and save lives!
