In honour of his passing July 16, 2023, NCN Chief and Council, staff and Citizens remember our dear friend and employee, Norman Charles Donkey. A valuable Country Foods employee for many years, he was a hunter, fisherman harvester, he later applied those skills with Aski’ Otutoskeo Limited. Norman was a remarkable individual whose life was a testament to the deep connection between our people and nature. Norman was great at teaching the art of living off the land, imparting knowledge and wisdom that enriched the lives of the people around him. He not only shared practical skills but also instilled a profound respect for the natural world. His guidance on sustainable hunting practices, foraging techniques, and understanding of local ecosystems aided us physically, spiritually and culturally.

Norman was also known for his generosity of spirit and unwavering dedication to ensuring that future generations would inherit a world where harmony with nature is cherished and preserved. He loved and respected everyone, especially his close network of family and friends who miss him dearly. His legacy will forever be etched in the traditions and practices he passed down to us, sharing our community’s identity and values.

As we reflect on Norman’s life, let us honour his memory by continuing to live in harmony with the land and nature he loved so dearly. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever guide and inspire us.

With deepest gratitude and respect,
From Chief and Council, on behalf of management, department staff and Citizens.
