All NCN CITIZENS who are considering in running for Chief and Council in the upcoming elections must ensure that they obtain an up-to-date criminal record check as soon as possible. The procedures have changed so it’s important that you attend at the local NCN RCMP detachment and complete the necessary forms.
There are different types of criminal record checks. For purposes of the Election Law, you can obtain a Name Criminal Record Check. You will have to pay $10.00 and provide proper identification (government issued photo ID and a secondary document that verifies the primary identification). Passports, Driver’s License, and Status Cards can all be used.
Criminal Records Checks are to be submitted during the time you submit your nomination papers (July 14, 2026).
If you are required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check, the cost for that document is $60.00.
As it is a busy time of the year and it will take some time to process your Criminal Record Check, so please ensure you apply as soon as possible if you intend to run for office.
Respectfully,
Annette Swanson
