Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) is NOT in imminent threat/danger at this time, be on alert and plan accordingly.

To keep NCN community informed and safe as Wildfires around our community continue to change due to nearby wildfire activity and heavy smoke. The NO050 fire near Mile 20 is currently less than 6 km from the road and the EMO team is advising all NCN members to avoid non-essential travel to Thompson due to heavy smoke in the area. If the situation changes, the road could be closed.

There is also heavy smoke within our community, so we strongly recommend that everyone stay indoors as much as possible and limit outdoor activity.

Here are the latest updates on fire and smoke conditions in around our NCN Community:

Fire & Road Conditions

  • The NO050 wildfire near Mile 20 is about 6 km from the road.
  • There is heavy smoke in the area, especially near Thompson.
  • Travel to Thompson should be limited to essential trips only at this time.
  • Highway 391 between the NCN Junction and Leaf Rapids is closed until further notice.
  • If conditions change, the road near Mile 20 may close with short notice.

Health & Safety

  • Due to the smoke in the NCN community, please stay indoors as much as possible.
  • Limit outdoor activity and know where your children are.
  • Poor air quality and low visibility are expected to continue.

Firefighting Update

  • An Incident Command Team from the Thompson Fire is now leading response efforts for the NO050 fire.
  • Crews are assessing back burn options to slow the fire’s movement south once winds shift.
