About the Role

In keeping with the spirit of non-discrimination, least disruptive practice in child and family services, and meeting our relatives where they are at, NCN has created a unique leadership position: Prevention Lead.

The Prevention Lead will oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive, community-driven Prevention Department. This includes translating NCN’s logic model (based on the Measuring to Thrive framework) into an actionable work plan that aligns with CHRT 41 funding guidelines and systemic reform priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Translate NCN’s logic model into an annual work plan with measurable objectives and outputs.
  • Ensure alignment of program activities with the six domains of well-being.
  • Promote culturally safe, family-centered, and equitable programming.

Program Oversight & Staff Management

  • Lead a team of up to 60 staff and contractors, including for Safe Haven, and land-based programming.
  • Oversee capital projects for housing core Prevention services.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, child safety, and cultural standards.

Financial Accountability

  • Prepare and manage the Prevention Department budget in alignment with NCN’s Delegation of Authority and Finance Policies.
  • Oversee program expenditures, reporting accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

Reporting & Accountability

  • Report regularly to the CEO on service delivery, performance, risks, and outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records for program evaluation and funding compliance.

Community & Partnerships

  • Build relationships with Elders, families, schools, justice, health, and cultural leaders.
  • Engage with families to co-develop solutions that reduce CFS involvement.
  • Respond to feedback and continuously improve service design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Indigenous Governance, or related field (equivalencies considered).
  • 5+ years’ experience leading prevention, wellness, or CFS-related programs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong budgeting, data management, and organizational skills.
  • Criminal record and vulnerable sector check required.

Compensation & Application

Salary Range: $78,000 – $90,000
