POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Resident Support Worker creates a welcoming and safe environment for the clients of the Shelter. The Resident Support Worker provides emotional support, safety planning, advocacy and referrals to women and children residents, and contributes to administrative and facility responsibilities of the shelter. The Resident Support Worker is responsible for providing a full range of services to women living in the Shelter, which includes but is not limited to: supporting counselling and referral; crisis counselling and conflict resolution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains In-Take procedures, upon admission, and assures quality reporting
  • Ensures client assessment and evaluation is completed within 48 hours to actual In-Take
  • Formulates service or treatment plans that will correspond to their individual needs
  • Creates (with participant) and evaluates workable recovery plans (safety plans) based on assessment of participant need and stage of recovery in consultation with the counselling staff and/or shelter therapist
  • Orients clients to the Residential Program with In-House procedures, rules and policies, and the daily living routine, including a clear explanation of the staff/Shelter role and services
  • Responsible for the Intervention & Personal Capacity Building Program, as the procedures formulate the basis from which every other aspect of services are developed
  • Contacts the appropriate authorities: EMR, RCMP or Fire Department without hesitation in emergency situations, such as injury, violence, or fire
  • Maintains an utmost confidentiality level at all times with personal data and documentation of all Residents’ Case Files

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor of Social Work, or Applied Counseling Skills Diploma or Community Centered Therapy Program.
  • Equivalent experience and/or education will be considered
  • Awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to violence and abuse, particularly to the cycle of abuse, post-traumatic symptomatology and addictions
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality and the dynamics of a “supportive” relationship. Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform responsibilities under such a mandate
  • Proven counseling and assessment skills – particularly crisis counselling and related short and long term counseling skills
  • Must have a proficient level of verbal, written and communication skills
  • Must have a proficient level of computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and software applications, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Manitoba Driver’s Class 5 License
  • Current Emergency First Aid & CPR
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
