Reporting to the Dietary Supervisor, the Maintenance worker helps the shelter’s facilities and grounds clean and well groomed. The Maintenance Worker completes janitorial, landscaping and basic maintenance tasks as assigned on a routine or special project basis.


  • Performs preventive building maintenance duties, caulks windows and doors, repairs and replaces broken locks and bunks; door knobs or locks, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls
  • Clean facilities and grounds
  • Troubleshoot and report minor maintenance problems, plumbing, and equipment repairs or replacement to the Executive Director
  • Performs routine plumbing repairs and changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps
  • Assembles and moves furniture; hang pictures and bulletin boards; moves and sets up tables and chairs
  • Paint interior and exterior walls
  • Keeps track of inventory, equipment and supplies
  • Reports inventory and supply needs and equipment repair needs to the Executive Director
  • Preforms other duties as directed by the Executive Director

  • Knowledge of machinery equipment and tools necessary for maintenance repair of building
  • A high school diploma or GED and one or more years’ experience in maintenance work
  • Knowledge of supplies, cleaning and landscaping equipment and safe cleaning techniques
  • Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Current and valid Driver’s License, plus a safe driving record
  • Skills required to clean and sanitize facilities and maintain grounds
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be given into consideration
  • Must provide a current satisfactory criminal record (including Vulnerable Sector), Child Abuse Registry as a condition of employment.
