On June 9, 2025, the spirit of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation was alive and thriving at Kildonan Park in Winnipeg. Chief Angela Levasseur, along with Councillors Cheryl Hunter-Moose, Shirley Linklater, Kim Linklater, Ron Spence, and Deputy Chief Marcel Moody, came out to meet and connect with NCN members living in the city.

The moment you stepped into the gathering, you were welcomed by familiar faces, warm introductions, and a powerful sense of community. Everyone knew someone and if you didn’t, you were quickly introduced. The atmosphere was overflowing with love, laughter, and kinship.

One touching moment stood out as a young boy helped his Moshoom to the washroom, waiting patiently outside the door. These simple yet powerful acts remind us that, even far from home, our traditions and values remain alive in the hearts of our youth.

Children ran and laughed through the park, playing with each other as their parents joined in the fun. The event had something for everyone, especially during the exciting door prize draws. Members went home with everything from children’s toys to kitchen appliances, and one lucky winner took home the grand prize: a TV.

The community also enjoyed a BBQ feast prepared by Chef Justin, including hot dogs, burgers, assorted salads, and an irresistible variety of desserts.

Throughout the day, Chief and Council took time to speak with members, answering questions openly and listening closely to concerns. It was a space for not just celebration, but conversation and connection.

Though the skies were cloudy, the event was anything but dim. The joy and pride of NCN members brightened the park, making this gathering a truly memorable day.
