Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation is seeking a dependable and motivated Payroll Clerk to join its Finance team. The Payroll Clerk will support the accurate and timely processing of payroll and respond to employee payroll inquiries. The Payroll Clerk will work under the supervision of the Finance Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time.
- Collect, verify, enter, and maintain employee payroll information, including timesheets, overtime, on-call hours, leave and payroll changes.
- Ensure payroll documentation is complete and properly authorized before processing.
- Process direct deposits, deductions, benefits, pension contributions, garnishments, and other payroll adjustments.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll registers, remittances, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with Records of Employment, T4s and year-end payroll reporting.
- Review payroll reports and resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
- Respond to employee and manager payroll inquiries.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll files.
- Support audits, reconciliations, and payroll-related reporting.
- Follow NCN policies, employment agreements, and applicable payroll legislation.
- Provide backup support within the Finance Department when required.
- Preparation and Experience working with Record of Employment and ROE Web / Service Canada
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of two to three years of payroll, accounting, or related finance experience.
- Payroll Compliance Professional designation or payroll training is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in payroll, accounting, finance, business, or human resources is an asset.
- Experience working in a First Nations environment is preferred.
- Experience with Sage 300 and computerized payroll systems is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet firm payroll deadlines and work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interpret employment agreements, payroll policies, and authorized pay changes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Demonstrates discretion when overseeing confidential employee and financial information.
