SUMMARY:
The Animal Control Prevention Worker will support the community’s animal control program by focusing on prevention, education, animal registration, and responsible pet ownership. This position will also provide data entry and administrative support to ensure accurate records, organized program information, and effective communication with community members.
The successful candidate will assist with community animal census and registration activities, owner education and support, coordination of spay/neuter and vaccination initiatives, community engagement, recordkeeping and general program support related to animal control services.
DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:
- Promote responsible pet ownership through community education and awareness and direct owner engagement.
- Assist with community animal census activities and animal registration, identification records, and owner contact information.
- Support prevention initiatives, including spay and neuter clinics, vaccination/rabies initiatives, animal-health clinics, owner follow-up, and public information campaigns.
- Help prepare and distribute pamphlets, notices, social media posts, radio announcements, and newsletter information, including school/youth and community safety education where appropriate.
- Enter and maintain accurate animal control data, including registration records, vaccination/rabies and spay/neuter status, complaints, follow-ups, other animal control issues, enforcement-related information and service activities.
- Provide administrative support such as filing, scheduling, preparing forms, documenting calls, and maintaining program records.
- Identify barriers to responsible animal ownership and help connect owners with approved supports, services, or animal-welfare resources.
- Assist with coordination and follow-up involving unwanted litters, voluntary surrenders, foster/adoption, or approved animal rescue partners, as directed.
- Communicate respectfully with community members regarding animal control requirements, bylaws, and registration processes and responsible animal care.
- Work with Animal Control staff, other NCN departments and approved veterinary, animal-welfare and rescue partners as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Prepare basic reports, summaries, and updates including prevention activities and program statistics, for supervisors or leadership when required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in animal rescue, animal welfare, animal care, community outreach, community services, administration or data management is an asset.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to enter information accurately and maintain records.
- Comfortable working with the public in a respectful and professional manner.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and database entry.
- Knowledge of animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, animal behavior, community safety or animal-control requirements is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license may be required.

- Office-based administrative work with some community outreach duties.
- May involve contact with community members regarding sensitive animal control matters.
- May require occasional travel within the community.
- May require participation in public education events, clinics, or awareness campaigns.
