SUMMARY:

Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation is seeking to hire or appoint an Energy InSites Champion to support local coordination of the Energy InSites project in partnership with the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER).

This position is intended to strengthen NCN’s local role in guiding and supporting energy-related project work in the community. The Energy InSites Champion will help ensure the work is practical, community-informed, and positioned to support long-term energy planning and future implementation opportunities.

The Energy InSites Champion will act as the main community contact for the project and help coordinate local activities related to energy efficiency, building energy assessments, community capacity building, and future funding opportunities. This role is intended to support practical community-based energy planning by helping connect technical assessment work with local priorities, facilities, and decision-making.

The Energy InSites Champion will play an important role in organizing site visits, supporting communication between NCN and project partners, and helping prepare the community for future energy-saving and retrofit opportunities.

DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

  1. Project Coordination:
  • Coordinate local Energy InSites project activities in NCN.
  • Help organize and track projects tasks, timelines, and next steps.
  • Support activities related to community energy capacity building and awareness.
  • Assist with coordination of building energy assessments.
  • Help identify practical opportunities for future building improvements and energy efficiency actions.
  • Support research into funding opportunities that may assist with future retrofit or implementation work.
  1. Liaison and Communications:
  • Serve as the main liaison between NCN, CIER, and project contractors or technical partners.
  • Help ensure local leadership, staff, building, operators, and relevant departments are informed of project activities.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication regarding scheduling, building access, and project progress.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates as needed.
  1. Site Visits and Community Engagement:
  • Organize and support site visits for energy assessments and related project work.
  • Coordinate with local staff and departments to arrange building access and logistics.
  • Support community engagement and awareness activities related to energy efficiency and building improvements.
  • Help identify local priorities, concerns, and opportunities that should inform project delivery.
  1. Access to Buildings and Information:
  • Help facilitate physical access to community buildings for CIER and its project partners for the purpose of conducting energy assessments.
  • Support collection and sharing of available information needed for assessments including;
  • building lists
  • energy consumption or utility data
  • building plans
  • maintenance information
  • other relevant community records, where available
  1. Local Champion Role:
  • Act as a local champion for energy awareness and practical energy improvement opportunities in the community.
  • Help connect technical findings to community needs and local realities.
  • Support NCN leadership and staff in understanding assessment results and possible next steps.
  • Help build momentum toward future funding, retrofit planning, and implementation.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the community, local facilities, and community priorities in NCN
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with community leadership, staff, external partners, and technical consultants
  • Experience in project coordination, community outreach, administration, housing, public works, energy, or infrastructure is an asset
  • Interest in energy efficiency, community development, housing, infrastructure, or climate-related work is an asset
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle information respectfully and professionally
  • Basic computer and administrative skills, including email, scheduling and document organization
  • Valid full driver’s license may be an asset, depending on project needs

  • Stronger awareness of energy priorities, building needs, and funding opportunities in the community

Working Relationships:

The Energy inSites Champion will work closely with;

  • NCN leadership and relevant departments
  • CIER project staff
  • Technical contractors and assessment partners
  • Building managers, operators, and other local contacts as needed
