SUMMARY:

The Ending Poverty Coordinator is a dynamic leadership role focused on designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive programs that move NCN youth members out of cycles of poverty by fostering holistic wellness, traditional connection, and economic readiness. This role requires strong leadership, deep community connection, and the ability to integrate traditional knowledge with restorative justice principles to address the root causes of socio-economic barriers. The coordinator will collaboratively develop individualized health, wellness, and employment plans, serving as the central link between healing, training, and long-term stability.

DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of LER, the Resource Management Coordinator is responsible for, but not limited to:

Program Integration & Restorative Justice

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate culturally grounded restorative justice and healing programming that addresses trauma and systemic issues contributing to poverty for NCN youth.
  • Bridge traditional healing and modern employment strategies, serving as a mentor and guide with strong leadership and a deep connection to traditional knowledge and the land.
  • Develop health and wellness plans for NCN youth members in conjunction with the Justice Director and the ATEC Training and Employment Centre, ensuring plans include clear pathways out of poverty.
  • Land-Based Healing & Cultural Connection
  • Design and lead land-based healing activities to actively reconnect youth members to the land and their culture, promoting resilience, identity, and mental wellness as foundations for stability.
  • Facilitate and organize traditional ceremonies, including sharing circles and sweat lodge ceremonies, ensuring protocols are respected and adherence to traditional teachings is maintained.

Economic & Social Readiness

  • Facilitate counselling services and social readiness programming at the ATEC facility, focusing on life skills, financial literacy, and essential soft skills necessary for employment success.
  • Lead the coordination of training to employment initiatives in partnership with ATEC, aligning youth skills and interests with available economic opportunities and providing mentorship throughout the process.

Evaluation & Accountability

  • Establish robust systems for evaluating and monitoring the progress of clientele, specifically tracking key indicators related to wellness improvement, educational attainment, and successful entry into employment.
  • Ensure youth are adhering to the terms and conditions of their individualized plans, including measurable progress in both healing and training to employment initiatives.

Provide regular, detailed progress reports to the Justice Director and ATEC leadership.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination, community development, or social work, with a focus on poverty reduction or economic inclusion.
  • Proven strong leadership skills and experience in mentorship.
  • Deep experience with the land and extensive, demonstrable connection to traditional knowledge and healing practices.

  • Knowledge of the systemic and social issues contributing to poverty in First Nation communities.
  • Familiarity with restorative justice models and their application in community settings.

Required Competencies

  • Holistic Focus: Ability to integrate cultural/traditional practices with modern therapeutic and economic development strategies.
  • Partnership Building: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Justice, Education/Employment (ATEC), and Community leadership.
  • Accountability: Strong organizational skills for monitoring, evaluating, and documenting client progress and program outcomes.
  • Cultural Competency: Profound respect for, and ability to facilitate, Indigenous ceremonies and traditional protocols.
  • Grade 12 Diploma, Diploma or degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Human Services or related field, or lived/community experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and mandatory email (word, excel, power point, outlook); would be an asset.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background/vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Knowledge of NCN Nehetho (Cree) language and culture would be an asset.
