SUMMARY:
The Land-Based Wellness & Readiness Facilitator supports the Ending Poverty Coordinator by directly delivering essential land-based healing, restorative justice, and employment readiness programming for NCN youth members. This role focuses on hands-on facilitation, mentorship, and monitoring to ensure youth successfully engage with their health and wellness plans and progress through training-to-employment initiatives. The Facilitator requires a strong background in traditional knowledge, practical land skills, and the ability to work effectively with youth in a mentorship capacity.
DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Ending Poverty Coordinator, the Land-Base Wellness and Readiness Facilitator is responsible for, but not limited to:
Program Delivery & Facilitation
- Facilitate and organize restorative justice and land-based healing activities as directed by the Ending Poverty Coordinator, including daily programming and special events.
- Lead land-based healing activities to actively reconnect youth to the land and culture, teaching practical skills and reinforcing traditional teachings.
- Facilitate and coordinate regular sharing circles and sweat lodge ceremonies in accordance with cultural protocols.
- Deliver social readiness programming and assist in the coordination of basic counselling services housed at the ATEC facility.
- Facilitate on-the-ground support for youth engaged in training to employment initiatives in partnership with ATEC, serving as a job readiness mentor.
Client Support & Mentorship
- Provide direct, one-on-one mentorship and guidance to NCN youth members, serving as a positive role model with strong leadership skills.
- Assist the Coordinator in the implementation and day-to-day management of individualized health and wellness plans.
- Work collaboratively with youth to ensure they are following the terms and conditions of their plans, particularly regarding engagement in training and wellness activities.
Administrative & Reporting
- Monitor and document the daily attendance, participation, and immediate progress of clientele in all land-based and readiness programming.
- Assist the Coordinator in the ongoing evaluation and monitoring of progress for training to employment initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and provide timely reports to the Ending Poverty Coordinator.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated experience in a facilitator, mentor, or direct service delivery role working with youth, preferably in a First Nation community setting.
- Proven practical experience with the land and a working connection to traditional knowledge and healing practices.
- Experience in organizing and leading group activities, workshops, or cultural events.
- Knowledge of basic counseling techniques, crisis intervention, or conflict resolution (restorative justice principles).
Required Competencies
- Communication & Mentorship: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to build rapport and trust with vulnerable youth.
- Adaptability: Ability to manage dynamic group settings and adapt program activities based on the needs of the participants or changing weather conditions.
- Initiative: Proactive approach to program delivery and addressing immediate client needs.
- Cultural Safety: Deep respect for cultural protocols, traditional ways of knowing, and the lived experience of NCN youth.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Grade 10 and up with experience in Land Base Knowledge, Traditional Skills, etc.
- Communication and organizational skills.
- Class 5 Drivers License.
- Knowledge of NCN Nehetho (Cree) language and culture would be an asset.
