SUMMARY:

Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation is seeking to hire or appoint a part-time Community Coordinator to support local delivery of the From the HomeFire Project in partnership with the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER). The project responds to recent wildfire impacts and evacuation experiences in NCN and is intended to help strengthen household-level fire and smoke response planning through community-based, culturally grounded engagement.

The From the HomeFire Project was developed in response to severe wildfire impacts, prolonged smoke exposure, evacuation experiences, and the need for culturally grounded household preparedness resources in NCN. The Community Coordinator role is intended to help ensure the project is locally organized, community-informed, and carried out in a way that reflects NCN’s priorities and experiences.

The Community Coordinator will play a key role in organizing local project activities, supporting communication between NCN and CIER, coordinating engagement with Elders, Knowledge Holders, youth, and families, and helping guide development of a fire response planning resource for households. The Coordinator will also support project activities that inform a fire readiness Ecoversity course grounded in Indigenous knowledge, FireSmart principles, and community experience.

DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

  • Help organize project tasks, timelines, and day-to-day
  • Support planning and delivery of project milestones related to community engagement, development of the family fire response planning resource, and related project outputs. The proposal schedules these around Spring 2026 to guide development, and Summer 2026 for course development.
  • Help ensure project activities are completed in a timely and community-informed
  1. Liaison and Communication:
  • Serve as the main community liaison for From the HomeFire activities involving CIER and any project contractors or partners.
  • Maintain communication between NCN leadership, staff, community participants, and CIER.
  • Help ensure community contacts, participants, and relevant departments are informed about meetings, interviews, surveys, and engagement activities.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates as required.
  1. Community Engagement Support:
  • Help organize and support engagement with Elders, Knowledge Holders, youth, and community members to inform project development.
  • Assist with organizing community surveys, interviews, meetings, and other engagement activities.
  • Support planning for incentives, participation, and local outreach.
  • Help ensure community voices, experiences, and priorities are respectfully reflected in project activities and outputs.
  1. Event and Logistics Coordination:
  • Coordinate logistics for site visits, meetings, interviews, and community engagement sessions.
  • Arrange invitations, participant lists, locations, catering, and materials as needed.
  • Support preparation and distribution of posters, agendas, handouts, and other project materials.
  • Assist with purchases of approved materials, supplies, and prizes related to project activities.
  1. Resource Development Support:
  • Support CIER in the development of a fire response planning resource for families, informed by local knowledge, wildfire experience, and household needs. The proposal identifies this as a core project deliverable.
  • Assist in coordinating the gathering of stories, lessons learned, and local perspectives that may inform the fire readiness Ecoversity course.
  • Help review draft materials with community contacts where appropriate.
  1. Documentation and Information Sharing:
  • Keep basic records of project activities, meetings, participation, and follow-up items.
  • Help gather and share information needed to support the project, while respecting confidentiality and community protocols.
  • Assist with community-level updates and follow-up communication related to the project.
  1. Local Champion Role:
  • Act as a local champion for the From the Homefire Project by helping connect project activities to community priorities, household preparedness, and wildfire readiness.
  • Help encourage participation and support awareness of the project’s purpose and benefits.
  • Assist NCN and CIER in keeping the work practical, community-based, and grounded in local experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of the community, local context, and community priorities in
  • Strong communication and organizational
  • Ability to work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Holders, youth, families, leadership, and outside partners.
  • Experience in community coordination, project support, administration, outreach, emergency preparedness, or related work is an asset.
  • Interest in wildfire preparedness, community safety, climate adaptation, or family preparedness is an asset.
  • Ability to handle information respectfully and maintain
  • Basic computer and administrative skills, including email, scheduling, and document
  • Valid driver’s license may be an asset, depending on project
