After consulting with Emergency Management (EMO) and Fire Services, the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) fire ban has been temporarily lifted. Conditions have improved, but everyone must continue to practice fire safety.
The temporary lifting of the fire ban comes with the following safety requirements:
- Keep a water source nearby at all times, such as a garden hose, bucket of water, or portable water tank.
- Never leave a fire unattended.
- Fully extinguish fires before leaving the area.
- Keep fires small and under control.
- Remove dry grass, leaves, and other flammable materials from around the fire pit.
- Do not burn during windy conditions, as sparks can spread and start wildfires.
- Keep fires a safe distance from buildings, trees, and brush.
- Always supervise children around fires.
- Do not throw cigarette butts on the ground.
- Report any fire that is out of control immediately to NCN Fire Dept Emergency Line 204-484-2047
- Follow all provincial and local fire safety rules.
Recent rainfall has helped improve conditions, but some areas still contain dry vegetation. Weather conditions can change quickly, and strong winds can increase the risk of wildfire.
