Our EMO team and Chief and Council are working hard every day to keep our Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) community safe. While the Chief and some Councillors are at an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister and other government officials, the EMO team, Department managers, and some Councillors are managing the Wildfire Evacuees.

Important Update:

  • NO immediate danger to NCN from the wildfires. The Lands, Environment, Resource (LER) Department is monitoring things closely, and fire activity is moving into old burn areas, helping slow it down.
  • Roughly 762, NCN Citizens have been safely evacuated to places like Thompson, Winnipeg, The Pas, Regina, Weyburn, West St. Paul, and more, with all EMO arranged locations has security and coordinators making sure everyone is safe and cared for.
  • The LER department states that smoke will continue, no matter which way the wind blows, and there is no immediate danger to NCN from the wildfires. We encourage everyone to stay calm.
  • To all approved NCN evacuees staying in private accommodations, $50 will be allocated to help with lodging and meals.
  • NCN Evacuees from Dakota Dunes have transferred to the Sandman Hotel in Regina
  • NCN Evacuees from Fort Garry Hotel have transferred to Southeast Collegiate

We’ll keep updating the NCN community through Facebook and the website.

Thank you to all our workers, leaders, and helpers who are going above and beyond for our community every single day.
