RE: NCN COVID-19 ASSISTANCE

Dear NCN Citizens,
Tansi! On behalf of my council, I want to acknowledge everyone for their patience and cooperation during this time. It has been just over a month since NCN declared a local State of Emergency to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID -19) into our community.
This period of self-isolation, travel restrictions and social distancing has been difficult for everyone, we understand! Everyone has, for the most part has been cooperative and understanding.
In an effort to assist our citizens during this time, we will be issuing a one-time payment of $200 per household for both on and off-reserve citizens and $50.00 to those who are displaced (off reserve only). While it is not much to some people, $200 can go a long way to restocking basic necessities, i.e., food and groceries. These payments will be distributed starting Friday, April 24, 2020 in NCN and the following week in Leaf Rapids, Winnipeg and Thompson. We ask that you to please use it wisely. We also provided an extra payment of $200.00 to the elders’ subsidy, which was issued to them last week.
We have also ordered cleaning supplies for on and off reserve members as well, and will have these distributed once they are received.
In closing, we thank all NCN citizens for their continued cooperation and wish you and your family good health, please continue to follow all the health guidelines during this time.
