Chief and Council have approved to initiate a phased repatriation for our community members to return home to NCN, effective today: August 13, 2025. This will happen in 4 phases:

PHASE 1 – August 13, 2025 – Private Vehicles

If you have your own vehicle, you may begin returning to Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN). Arrangements have been made for gas at the Red Sun and Pelican Landing (Grand Rapids) gas stations. NCN evacuees currently in Thompson, Manitoba, will receive $40 worth of fuel at the NCN Gas Bar. You must provide your license plate number, Treaty number, and Evacuation number at the gas station.

PHASE 2 – August 15, 2025 – Priority 2 and Priority 3

Buses will pick up our members who were evacuated starting with our members who are at the Winnipeg congregated shelters: RBC Convention Centre, and Leila and for our members who are in hotels and have no transportation.

Please check out from your room and Details on bus schedules will be announced soon. Red Cross is working on flight schedules.

PHASE 3 – Saturday, August 16, 2025 – Portage La Prairie

Buses will pick up our members at Portage La Prairie to transport them to NCN

PHASE 4 – TO BE DETERMINED – Priority 1 & Evacuees in Niagara Falls

Priority 1 NCN evacuees currently staying in Niagara Falls will be returning to the NCN community.

IMPORTANT: 

Priority ones (P1s) will have to stay back until we get clearance from the health team. If you have your own vehicle and do not need the bus, you can return to NCN at any time, as of August 13, 2025.
