The Income Assistant Case Manager must be able to thrive in a busy, diverse client service environment where they can make a difference in the lives of NCN citizens seeking income, employment and disability assistance. The Income Assistant Case Manager will determine eligibility for services, and recommend supports and resources to clients and families.


  • Explain income support criteria and guidelines to applicants and recipients
  • Verify applicant information including family size and income
  • Determine eligibility for support
  • Process applications
  • Maintain client files and ongoing communication with clients
  • Communicate clear, substantive decisions to a diverse group of citizens
  • Communicate successfully and positively with people who may have multiple barriers including physical disabilities,
    mental illness, addiction, and language barriers
  • Deliver difficult decisions to clients who may be in upsetting situations
  • Ability to deal with clients that are facing problems relating to physical or mental health, any form of abuse or addiction, problems related to family instability, financial settlements, poverty related issues, etc.
  • Understands the needs of the clientele by scrutinizing their background history, understanding their current needs, and arranging for their well-being
  • Ensure proper follow-ups and have face-to-face Interactions with the clients, and other parties involved
  • Be well-versed in the availability of resources, the paperwork that needs to be done, and to adjust all these activities according to the need of the client
  • Maintain accurate records and note keeping
  • Embrace ongoing professional development and learning that will grow your competency and ability to confidently make substantive discretionary decisions
  • Familiar with legal requirements and terminology surrounding disability and healthcare coverage as well as industry and community policies and procedures
  • Coordinates with various service providers to ensure the fulfillment of a client’s needs
  • To maintain confidentiality regarding the information that the client may share
  • Perform other duties as required


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is mandatory
  • Minimum two years experience administering an income assistance program on reserve
  • Proficiency in computer software (MS Office) and Internet is essential
  • Ability to convince and persuade others while building rapport would be definite asset
  • Confidence and knowledge about the related work is required
  • Ability to provide self-care to handle stress and pressure
  • Ability to speak Cree an asset
