MARCH 30, 1955 – NOVEMBER 17, 2024

Our Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, friends families and loved ones are deeply saddened with the loss as we remember Shirley Anne Linklater, a woman whose love and kindness touched everyone she encountered. She was truly exceptional, embracing her many roles in life with grace – as a parent, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and so much more to our entire community.

Shirley’s life was one of service, dedication, and compassion. In her younger years, she worked tirelessly with the Hudson Bay Company, as a receptionist for the nursing station, and as a clerk for Canada Post. She concluded her professional journey as a social worker with child welfare, leaving a legacy of care and commitment to her community.

Beyond her work, Shirley found joy in her family and her traditions. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, whether camping, baking, or participating in traditional activities. She gave freely of her time, always willing to volunteer and support the community she cherished.

Shirley leaves behind her beloved children – Melbourne, Melodie, Robert, and George – their partners and her cherished grandchildren. She is mourned by her four sisters, Myrtle, Lorraine, Kim, and Bonnie, as well as her last surviving brother, Graeme. Her memory will also live on in the hearts of her extended family and many friends.

As the matriarch of her family, Shirley’s absence will be deeply felt. Yet, her spirit, strength, and love will continue to guide those who had the privilege of knowing her.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by the same love and warmth she so generously shared in her lifetime.
