ALAN WAYNE LINKLATER
MAY 5, 1955 – MAY 25, 2025

With heavy hearts, we honour the life and passing of Elder Alan Linklater, a respected Citizen of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.

Elder Linklater walked the path of the Creator with humility, strength, and deep respect – living in the way of truth, love and wisdom that would make our First Nation ancestors proud.

He carried and shared the sacred teachings, not only through his words, but in how he lived, taught, and walked with others. As an Elder, he upheld the guidance of those who came before us, reminding us to live with kindness, integrity, and connection to the land and world.

His presence touched many lives in our community directly and indirectly. He had a gift of offering wisdom, humour, and compassion to all who had the privilege to learn from him.

Alan was a miner for two years at INCO mine in Thompson and later a miner for 23 years at Ruttan Mine in Leaf Rapids. He was also an instructor at ATEC and taught Mining Courses for a couple of years in Hollow Water. Alan was also a key part of the NCN CAP/CIP committee, Aski Governance Manager for the NCN Lands Department, Country Foods Program, and he worked as a Claims Officer. His work helped guide the direction of important community programs. The way he lived and impacted others around him will continue to guide our Nation’s youth and Citizens for generations to come.

Elder Alan was also a devoted family member, friend to many and a proud fan of the New England Patriots. He was always ready to share the wins or losses of his favorite team with a story, a smile, or a thoughtful word.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who carry his memory in their hearts.

May your journey onward, Elder Alan Linklater, be guided in hand by the ancestors and family before you – whose footsteps you so honourably followed. The light of your memory and words will continue to lead us.

– On behalf of Chief and Council, Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation
