SUMMARY:
Working in the Operations division of NHDC, the Economic Development Officer (EDO) is a key team member responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and analyzing the economic growth strategies of the NHDC Strategic Plan. The EDO coordinates special projects, new business ventures and assists with community initiatives and projects.
Key areas of responsibility include applying for Government loan/grant funding for specific projects or objectives; prepares coordination and analysis of specific projects and support to the Director of Operations; keeping updated with external and internal business developments, identify market and business opportunities and sectors, labor requirements, creates business relations and networking, training, and development opportunities. In your role you will also assist NCN members to become potential entrepreneurs with business planning and entrepreneurship training. In addition to remaining current with all applicable NCN land laws, corporate laws and regulations, this role requires the individual to play a lead role in all business initiatives and opportunities. The role further requires the individual to maintain positive relationships between the business community, management team, staff, Government(s), community members, funders, and FN institutions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and Implement Growth Strategies to achieve Employment & Revenue growth for NHDC and NCN
- Identify and apply for Funding to achieve Goals identified in Strategic Plans
- Provide advice and guidance to NCN entrepreneurs to create small and medium size businesses including develop training opportunities.
- Identify & Research Markets and Business opportunities.
- Coordinate Special Projects and new business ventures.
- Develop and maintain the business directory as per the Procurement policies “preferred supplier list.”
- Develop and promote NCN business profiles in line with the Communications Strategy.
- Lead and participate in corporate/business strategies, plans, and studies.
- Create, network, and maintain a positive relationship between business community, industry, government and NCN members.
- Create business resource articles for Achimowina (NCN Newsletter) and social media Comms.
- Create and coordinate a Home Ownership Fund and Youth Mentorship program.
- Coordinate the delivery of information session with NCN Members on Business Plans, funding applications and resources.
- Identify and access funding for training and development programs for special projects.
- Remain up to date with best practices, legislative changes, and industry standards.
- Researching funding opps, market trends, monitor Merx and different procurement policies for clients.
- Perform other duties assigned by the needs of the corporation or as directed by the CEO.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree/Certificate in business, community, economic development, or related discipline. Post-secondary education MBA, Business Administration or Project Management – will consider combination of education & work experience.
- Economic Development Officer or Land Management Certificate.
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office Programs, email & electronic communication tools, information management and other computer-based programs.
- Exceptional written and office administrative experience.
- Accessing loans, grants, and funds available to First Nations – loan/grant proposal writing and reporting.
- Knowledge of First Nation Land Governance and Development.
- Willingness to obtain training in business certification.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
