On behalf of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Chief, Council, and all our Citizens, we extend our congratulations to former NCN Councillor Willie Moore who was elected as the new Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Regional Chief On July 24th, 2024.
AFN is a national advocacy organization that works to advance the collective aspirations of First Nations individuals and communities across Canada on matters of national or international nature and concern.
Mr. Moore’s dedication, accomplishments, and service as a former NCN Councillor from 2014-2022 have always been a source of inspiration and pride for our community. We are confident that his leadership will continue to positively impact and represent the interests of our people at the regional level.
The recent Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, held during the 36th Annual General Assembly on Waywayseecappo First Nation Lands, was a significant event for all of us. The election had three rounds of voting by AMC Chiefs-in-Assembly and had strong candidates including Sidney Ballantyne, Tyler Duncan, David Harper, and Sheldon Kent.
In the third and final round of ballots, 49 votes were cast for the remaining two candidates, and the results are as follows:
- Sheldon Kent received 23 votes
- Willie Moore received 26 votes
Willie Moore’s election as AFN Regional Chief is a testament to his vision, commitment, and the trust placed in him by the Manitoba Chiefs.
We look forward to supporting Willie in his new role and working together to achieve our shared goals.
Congratulations once again Willie we look forward to your advocacy and leadership!
Sincerely,
Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Chief and Council
