On July 23, 2015, Kevin Hart of the Nischawayasihk Cree Nation was elected Assembly of First Nations Manitoba Regional Chief after being nominated by NCN Chief Marcel Moody at the recent AMC Assembly in The Pas. The election took place at the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs 27th Annual General Assembly in Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba.
Hart won out over five other candidates and will be serving his first term as Regional Chief of Manitoba. He was currently working at Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.
The newly elected Regional Chief will be a voice for our First Nations women, children and Citizens in Manitoba and advocate for rights and Treaties in Manitoba and at the national level. He will work to advance First Nation priorities in his region and across the country. He also hopes to get more First Nations voters out in the next federal and provincial elections to let governments know that First Nations matter and he will work to help the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women.
