SUMMARY
Indian Residential School Research Community Coordinator (Contract Position), Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to oversee a unique multi-faceted Research Project relating to Indian Residential Schools.
JOB DUTIES:
Create a work plan and scopes of work that addresses:
- Interviewing former student of Residential Schools and includes support for emotional, spiritual, and mental health.
- Assist Project Manager with Researching the Archives and Records: Provincial and National archives; Archives of the United Church of Canada and the Roman Catholic Church and other archival records branches relating to the former residential schools.
- Audio Recording and transcribing.
- Co-ordination of community Elders and ceremonies related to the project.
- Coordinating community engagement sessions with various Residential school investigation teams.
- Support access for Residential School survivors and their families to their records in a safe, respectful and trauma informed manner.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Humanities History, Anthropology, or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain positive professional boundaries without imposing personal judgements and expectations on community members.
- Knowledge of the history of the residential school system and impact on our community.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interviewing knowledge for statements of survivors.
- Must be fluent in Cree.
- Demonstrated time management skills.
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Clean criminal record check.
- Valid Drivers License.
