Position Summary:

Reporting to the Community Employment Coordinator, the primary responsibility for the Community Employment Advisor is obtaining accurate information from NCN Members about their past training and employment experiences to establish a detailed community skills inventory based on factual up-to-date information.

Duties & Responsibilities:

As part of a team, the main duties include the following:

  • Arranging interviews for NCN Members between the ages of 15 and 49 who are interested in pursuing training and employment opportunities;
  • Interviewing NCN Members to obtain accurate information about their training and employment experience, including assisting them obtain supportive documentation such as high school and post-secondary education transcripts and employment histories;
  • Arranging for CAAT, Essential Skills and other related testing to be undertaken through ATEC or other institutions;
  • Assisting in administering CAAT and other testing through ATEC;
  • Identifying potential barriers to training and employment;
  • Inputting data based on the surveys and interviews undertaken;
  • Analyzes information obtained from interviews, tests and other sources to develop short and long term individual training and employment plans;
  • Facilitating the development of pre-employment essential skills such as resume preparation and interview skills;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate would ideally have post-secondary education in Adult Education, Business Administration, or Human Resources Management, with several years demonstrated experience related to Aboriginal training and employment programming. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Requires strong interpersonal relationship skills, including the ability to convey accurate information to NCN Members.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Interviewing skills.
  • Excellent writing skills with an ability to produce documents under time constraints.
  • Good oral communication skills, including the ability to speak in Cree and English, as well as the ability to make public presentations.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer along with experience using a variety of business software, including ensuring all data is inputted accurately.
  • PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO NCN MEMBERS
