 Beginning in 1908 through to 1948, elections of NCN Chief and Councillors were typically held every year, except during
World War II, when there was a five-year gap between the 1939 election and the next one in 1944. From 1944 to 1961
the length of time between elections varied, but from 1961 to 1998, they were generally held every two years.
The Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Election Code was adopted in 1998, establishing that elections be held every four years.
