ATEC Opening: NELSON HOUSE – May 25, 2006 – Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation officially opened the $8.6-million, 27,000-square-foot Atoskiwin Training and Employment Centre of Excellence (ATEC) at Nelson House, the first purpose-built facility of its kind on a Manitoba First Nation reserve. OPCN Independence: WINNIPEG – December 23, 2005 – Officials with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, leaders of the community of South Indian Lake, and representatives of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation signed and witnessed final agreements on Dec. 22 to activate Canada’s newest First Nation, O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation (OPCN), at South Indian Lake in northern Manitoba. The First Nation’s reserve lands include over 28,000 acres, strategically located in more than 20 separate parcels throughout OPCN’s territory. Download PDF (96KB)

TLE Land Transfer: NELSON HOUSE – January 5, 2005: Provincial Crown land totalling just over 8,304 acres will be transferred to Canada for the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation as part of Manitoba’s obligation under treaty land entitlement agreements, Conservation Minister Stan Struthers and Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Minister Oscar Lathlin announced today while in the community.
