Tori Yetman Launches Third Annual Tori's Run

This year Tori starts in Winnipeg en route to Nelson House

June 19, 2010 – Nisichawayasihk Cree nation Member Tori Yetman launched her third annual Tori's Run at 9 a.m. June 19 at Fort Richmond Collegiate in Winnipeg as a fundraiser for The Canadian Cancer Society. 

This year Tori is running and cycling the 850 kilometres from Winnipeg to Nelson House, the reverse route she has followed during the last two runs.  The run is expected to take 10 days with arrival syt yjr Arena in Nelson House scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 28.

Tori dedicates her run to the memory of close friends who have died of cancer and to all those affected by cancer.

Province Seeks Public Input

on Intercity Bus Transportation

Survey Available Online.  NCN Citizens Urged to Participate

June 3, 2010 – The future of intercity bus services in Manitoba has been in the news over the past few months after Greyhound threatened to discontinue its Manitoba services entirely, claiming it was operating at a loss.  To temporarily resolve this situation, the Province agreed to support Greyhound sevices across Manitoba until December 31, 2010. To gather user input, the government has developed a public consultation program with information available at http://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/intercitybus/index.html.  An oline survey is avalable at http://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/intercitybus/input.html .

Second Round of Wuskwatim PDA Review

Meetings Concluded March 29

March 29, 2010 – The second round of Wuskwatim Project Development Agreement Review Meet and Greet meetings concluded Monday, March 29 at the Indian and Métis Friendship Centre in Winnipeg following four meetings the previous week in northern Manitoba: Nelson House, South Indian Lake, Leaf Rapids and Thompson. About 250 NCN Members attended the five meetings.

Tori Yetman completes second 850 kilometre run to raise funds to fight cancer

WINNIPEG, June 20, 2009 – NCN Member Tori Yetman, 14, arrived at The Forks in Winnipeg on Saturday to completed her second 850-kilometre run and cycle journey in two years from Nelson House to Winnipeg.  Her efforts raised $14,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of her two friends Roderick (Rocket) Spence and Matthew Berard Stevens who succumbed to the disease.

action to notify and protect it’s members, following notification of a listeriosis

She Made it!! 13-Year Old Tori Yetman Runs and Cycles 850 kilometres to Support Cancer Society

 

On June 27, 13-year-old NCN Member Tori Yetman completed her 850 kilometre run and cycle from Nelson House to Winnipeg to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. She embarked on the journey in memory of two young friends who died of cancer and for others affected by cancer.

She arrived at Arthur A. Leach school, where she is a student, around noon carrying an NCN flag and cheered on by school staff, students,friends, relatives and most of Winnipeg's media.

NCN Achieves Fiscal Health and Continues to Move Forward During Chief and Council’s Second Year

 

Since elected two years ago NCN’s Chief and Council’s drastic cost-cutting measures and hard work has paid off by restoring fiscal health to NCN’s First Nation ending the fiscal year with a balanced budget plus a small surplus! Other key situations, issues and celebrated accomplishments in their second year in office include:


• Economic development is key focus for council in striving for a prosperous future for NCN with initiatives that include Wuskwatim, Urban Reserve in Thompson, Treaty Land Entitlement and housing development in Thompson
• The Community Approval Process is able to operate as in the past due to the previously reported re-securement of the Hydro Bond
• Ongoing efforts to raise funds to secure Wuskwatim investment include development of a draft financial plan to ensure we obtain the maximum

equity possible
• Urban Reserve Approval requirements have been met and we continue with efforts to fast-track the Federal approval process
• Treaty Land Entitlement options being considered include land adjacent

to Thompson
• New community development planning policy being drafted
• Council sets objectives and priorities for new governance model to establish NCN as Sovereign Government
• Action taken and support requested from entire community to successfully address Social issues in Nelson House
• Centennial Event celebrations held to honour our past and affirm

promising future
• NCN to co-host 2009 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship in support of organized sports to allow our youth to build skills and self-confidence
